Golf: Texas State Men’s Golf Tied for Third at Jim West Intercollegiate

The Texas State men’s golf team fired a 15-over-par team score of 591 to tie Rice for third place through the first two rounds at Jim West Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at the Victoria Country Club.
Texas State shot an 11-over-par 299 in the second round on the par 72, 6,870-yard course on Monday afternoon, after the Bobcats began the tournament shooting four-over-par as a team in the opening round earlier in the day.
Michael Carnes and Alastair Jones were Texas State’s top individual players, as they finished the first day tied for 12th place after shooting a two-round total of 147.
Carson Gibson ended second round tied for 18th after he finished the day with a total of 149. Phillip Krebsbach and True Graves finished the first day with a two-round score of 153.
UT Arlington took a commanding lead in the tournament, as the Mavericks shot a seven-under-par 281 during both rounds to finish the first day with a team total of 562.
UTA’s Bobby Massa also fired a two-round, six-under-par total of 138 in the first two rounds to end the day as the individual leader heading into Tuesday’s final round.
Massa is one stroke ahead of his two teammates Zack Fisher and Bryce Easton, who ended the day tied for second at four-under-par. Dakota Duerr of Fullerton State finished the day at three-under-par and is in fourth place.
Michael Whitehead of Rice shot a two-under-par total of 142 to end the first day in fifth place, while Kevin Kirakossian of UT Pan American, Justin McKay of Sam Houston State and UTA’s Hunter Brown finished the day tied for sixth place with a one-under-par score of 143.
