Glorious Finish to Silly Season with Davis Love and Dru Love Winning Father/Son

The Father /Son is considered a near major in many households. In families where there is more than one golf-playing child, the decision of who to play can be one of the most important all year. The Nicklaus sons used to hold a qualifying tournament and the winner got to play with dad. The Floyd sons Robert and Raymond, Jr., have rotated slots in the event as have the Nelson sons Drew and Josh. Arnold Palmer is now on his second grandson as a partner, having replaced professional Sam Saunders with LaTrobe high school senior Will Wears.
It’s great to see this tournament return after a three-year absence just to see professionals playing golf with their sons and daughters. The two female entrants this year were Gretchen Zoeller (Fuzzy Zoeller), who has her dad’s outgoing personality and her mother’s good looks, and newcomer Christina Langer (Bernhard Langer), a collegiate golfer, replacing former champ, her brother, Stefan.
“That was awesome I want to thank you guys for a great tournament,” Dru Love said after the victory, sounding a lot like a son who has heard his father give a lot of victory speeches.
“I was watching the leaderboard and trying to calm down but really I was getting more and more nervous,” Davis Love admitted when they were done playing.
This feel good victory came on a day that earlier saw Sergio Garcia win in Malaysia firing a final round 61 and then Charl Schwartzel trounce the field at the Alfred Dunhill in South Africa by 12 strokes.
