Only few hours ago the world number two Rory McIlroy holed a 15 foot bunker shot to win the Omega Hong Kong Open by two shots. In Sun City, South Africa, the world number three Lee Westwood won the Nedbank Golf Challenge and one of the biggest money prices in golf.
Number three in Sun City ended up being Irish Graeme McDowell, the player who beat Woods in a play off last year in Chevron World Challenge, while Robert Karlsson came in second.
The world number one and winner of the PGA Tour money list, Luke Donald finished Nedbank in top 10 together with world No. 4 Martin Kaymer and Masters champion Charl Schwartzel. These are just some of the high ranked players who played outside the US this week.
Next week the four best players on the world ranking and the rest of top 60 on the European Tour will go on to play in the US $7.5 million Dubai World Championship, after which the top 15 players will share in The Race to Dubai's US $7.5 million prize fund.
With a share of US $7.5 million up for grabs in each The Race to Dubai and the Dubai World Championship, the total prize fund on offer is one of the most lucrative in all sports.
With the win in Hong Kong McIlroy could surpass Donald on the Race to Dubai money list if the Irish US Open champion finish at least second in Dubai and ahead of the world No. 1. Other wise Donald will write history and become the first player to win both the European and the PGA Tour money list the same year.
In California, Zach Johnson takes a one shot lead into the final round of Chevron World Challenge after ending the third round by holing a 7-iron for eagle on Sunday.
