Frank Adams III Wins Carolinas Pro Golf Tour Tournament at Carolina Lakes

Adams started the day four shots behind first-day leader Sam Lyons, of Myrtle Beach, SC who shot a seven under 65 on the first day, but carded a three over 75 in the final round to tie for second with Chase Holland of Dyartsville, NC. Lyons was a quarter finalist at the 2009 U.S.Amateur Public Links Championship, defeating Rickie Fowler along the way. Adams and Lyons played in the final grouping with Zimbabwean Nick Macdonald, who finished tied for fourth with amateur Trevor Cone of Concord, NC at three under 141 for their two day totals.
Following the first nine holes of the second day, Adams and Lyons were tied at five under. Lyons, the slightly longer hitter of the two, made four birdies on the back nine, but it was feast or famine as he also made five bogeys, mostly due to missed putts. Adams skillfully compensated for any lack of distance by consistently hitting precise iron shots into the greens. Adams made a birdie and a bogey on the back nine to go along with seven pars. Putting cost both competitors a chance to win comfortably.
After Adams and Lyons each birdied the 17th hole, they were again tied at five under. Adams found the fairway with his tee shot on the par four 18th, while Lyons tee shot settled near a tree to the left of the fairway. Lyons had a decent angle into the green, but his swing was inhibited by the proximity of the tree. After multiple practice swings, Lyons failed to make contact on his second shot and that would be the difference in the tournament.
