Dustin Johnson Returns to PGA Tour, Will Play in Farmers Insurance Open

Dustin Johnson's hiatus from the PGA Tour appears to be over.
According to Jason Sobel of GolfChannel.com, the 30-year-old will play in the Farmers Insurance Open, which will tee off on Feb. 5 at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California:
During last summer, Johnson announced he would be taking an extended break from golf. Some speculated that the PGA suspended him for violating a drug test, a claim which PGA Tour Executive Vice President Ty Votaw denied.
Prior to revealing his return date, Johnson granted an interview to ESPN's Tom Rinaldi and remained vehement that his time away from the sport wasn't in fact a punishment:
Drugs 'didn't really have a role in my life,' Johnson told ESPN's Tom Rinaldi in an interview broadcast on Monday night.
He also told Rinaldi that he had never failed a drug test on the PGA Tour.
'Like everyone, I'm tested regularly by the Tour,' he said. 'And as far as that's concerned ... I haven't failed anything.'
He attributed his problems to drinking too much.
'(I) would drink and drink to excess,' he said, adding that 'the change I made is, I just don't do that anymore.'
Johnson's attention will now turn to getting his career back on track and fulfilling the early promise he showed in 2010 and 2011, when he finished in the top 10 of a major tournament on three occasions.
As Doug Ferguson of The Associated Press noted, Johnson doesn't exactly have a great track record at Torrey Pines, so it may be a rocky return:
However, coming back now allows Johnson to have more than enough warm-up events before the biggest tournaments of the year. The 2015 Masters is the first major on the calendar, with the first round teeing off on April 9.
