British Open 2012 Leaderboard: Final-Round Flops Who Showed Promise

Adam Scott was within reach of his first career major championship at the 2012 British Open, then a final-round score of five-over par blew his chances.
Nonetheless, Scott showed an impressive all-around game through three rounds at Royal Lytham & St Annes this year, and he figures to be a premier contender moving forward.
Here's a look at some stars who flopped in the final round of the 2012 British Open but showed promise.
Adam Scott
If the 2012 British Open would have been three rounds long, Adam Scott would have won in a landslide.
Unfortunately for him, the British Open lasts four rounds.
While Scott may need to work on his mental game a bit to be fit for a major championship, he still showed a lot of skill at Royal Lytham & St Annes.
Scott, who came into the tournament ranked 113th on tour in driving accuracy, bucked the odds at a historically windy golf course, hitting 39 of 56 fairways.
Scott also hit 49 of 72 greens and drove the ball an average of 321.4 yards. His putting game was solid until the final round.
The 32-year-old Australian now has eight career top-10 finishes in majors.
Tiger Woods

The curious Tiger Woods had three PGA Tour victories this year headed into the 2012 British Open, and he was within reach of the Claret Jug through three rounds at Royal Lytham & St Annes.
Then he posted a three-over par on the final day of the tournament and finished tied for third place.
While Woods' mental game may still need some work, he's been much better in 2012 than in the past few years. He hit a respectable 46 of 72 greens ...
