Woods, on the other hand, will continue to be a non-factor. He's withdrawn from yet another major due to a knee injury. As his career fails to get out of squalor, McIlroy's is taking off.
Jack Nicklaus' record is a long way off, but people are beginning to speculate that it may be McIlroy, not Woods, who will break Nicklaus' major record. To say everyone has gotten ahead of themselves with crowning McIlroy the future king of golf is an understatement.

Amateurs like Patrick Cantlay don't need a major win to prove their worth. Just doing well in the tournament, as Cantlay did in the US Open, earns him the respect of the golf community.
