Florida's Billy Horschel shot a seven-under 63 to take a three-shot lead over the rest of the field at 13 under par. His impressive round also moves him to a projected first-place rank in the FedEx Cup standings as the four-week playoff winds towards its final event.
Horschel's being chased by Ryan Palmer, who's at 10 under, while Martin Kaymer and Bubba Watson sit at eight under par. The low round of the week came from 25-year-old Morgan Hoffmann, who posted his career-best 62 to move to four under par for the week.
After starting the day in first place at eight under par, Sergio Garcia fell off the pace after shooting a 72, leaving him seven shots back of the lead.
Rory McIlroy started his day two shots off the pace, but a shocking triple-bogey on the par-three 12th hole turned his fortunes in a hurry. McIlroy's now nine shots back heading into the final day of competition, at four under par.
While Garica and Mcilroy have drifted away from the top of the leaderboard, Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley have drifted away from the event entirely. Both choose to withdraw from the tournament before the beginning of Round 3.
Mickelson cited a desire to rest up before Ryder Cup competition begins in two weeks' time, while Bradley's conscience got the best of him after he felt unsure about the ruling on a shot from the 18th hole of his first round back on Thursday.
Conditions were cool and friendly at Cherry Hills on Saturday. More of the same will be expected for the final round on Sunday.
