Beyond those who started off strong on Thursday (Sergio Garcia, Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson), there are also those who surged back on Friday after ho-hum performances in the first round.
Here's a look at some of Day 2's biggest movers who figure to be in contention down the stretch.
3. Brandt Snedeker

Brandt Snedeker, the No. 29 player in the world, placed third at the British Open this year and has four top-10 finishes, including a victory at the Farmers Insurance Open in January.
While Snedeker has had a rough go since the British Open, he's had some good showings this year and he's played consistent golf through two rounds at Bethpage Black, improving his score in the second round.
Snedeker has been a very good putter this season (fourth on tour, per ESPN) and his driving accuracy and greens in regulation percentage are way up through Friday.
Snedeker finished tied for third at the Barclays last year.
2. Matt Kuchar

Round 2 Score: -3
Matt Kuchar has not only had eight top-10 finishes and a victory this year, he placed second at the Barclays last year.
The 34-year-old, ranked No. 11 in the world, missed the cut at the PGA Championship, but he placed third at the Masters and ninth at the British Open this year. He also won the Players Championship in May.
Kuchar is decent in greens in regulation percentage and driving accuracy this year and he ranks in the top 20 in putting per hole, via ESPN.
