Avnet LPGA Classic: First Round Leaders Struggle and Give Way to Low Scores

My how the leader board has changed in just an afternoon of golf here at the Crossing Course at Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Ala.
Park had the rougher of the afternoons today as she shot a three-over round of 75 to drop her into a tie for 16th place heading into the weekend.
Song-Hee Kim fared a little better than Park on this day. She carded an even-par round of 72 to remain in the top-3 and two strokes back of our new leader, Germany's Sandra Gal.
Gal, who shot an opening round of 70, came out today looking to move up from her eighth position and make a statement heading into moving day in Mobile.
Though the round did not start out particularly well, bogeying her second hole. Gal really got things moving on No. 4 with a birdie on the par-five. She then proceeded to go par, birdie, par, birdie on her next four holes to get her score to four-under par.
Trouble then came on the ninth and 10th holes, where she slipped and fired back-to-back double bogeys to drop to two-under.
Collecting herself on the 11th tee, Gal went on to card a 32 on the back nine bringing her in with a score of 67, seven-under par and the solo lead.
While some of the first-round players near the top struggled today, we saw some hard chargers flying up the leader board to take command heading into the weekend in the Deep South.
Sun Young Kim and Suzann Pettersen were two of those players who shot matching four-under par 68's today to move up from a 22nd place tie to a five-way tie for sixth.
Pettersen, no stranger to this course, was involved in the three-person playoff last year in the rain-shortened tournament, where she finished in third place.
As it stands now, Sandra Gal is at the top of the leader board here at the Avnet...
