Augusta National: Where Does It Rank Among the Most Hallowed Venues in Sports?

All week long you will hear just how gorgeous, idyllic, and heavenly Augusta National is. Whether it's Jim Nantz on CBS, your local newspaper's golf beat writer, or anyone you know whose actually been there, they will all tell you about the the beauty, the legendary people who've walked the course, and the "mystique."
That has me wondering something. Taking into account all the elements--history, tradition, physical aesthetics--is Augusta National the greatest place in the world to watch a sporting event?
An indoor arena, like Madison Square Gardens or Cameron Indoor Stadium, just can't compete in this kind of ranking. No matter how many great moments have taken place there, hardwood floors and metal girders just don't compare to the pink, yellow, and white flowers surrounded by endless green at Augusta.
And no matter how much football dominates the American landscape, few would call Soldier Field or Ohio State's Horseshoe, "beautiful."
Now a venue like old Yankee Stadium or Fenway Park, with the endless history do compare. And there's physical beauty to the architecture of both and the green of the field and the brown of the infield is compelling. But Augusta National has a one feature that no other sports venue can boast.
If you actually attend the Masters, you can walk the course and see all it's beauties at eye level, in person while the action is taking place. If you buy a ticket to Fenway, you don't get to stand on the field within 10 feet of Josh Beckett.
Therefore, when it comes to the truly greatest sports venue, for that reason, golf courses have the edge. And since the beauty of Augusta National largely outweighs any other I think it has to be considered tops.
