Auburn Golf Coach Danielle Downey Dies in Car Crash

The Associated Press provides an update on Danielle Downey's status before entering her vehicle on the night of her death:
A state trooper's report indicates former Auburn and LPGA player Danielle Downey had been drinking the night she died in a single-car accident.
The Alabama Department of Public Safety released the crash report Monday evening.
The report says the 33-year-old had passed another vehicle at a high rate of speed. She lost control, struck a tree and was ejected after her car overturned several times on Jan. 31.

The report says Downey had drinks with friends at an Auburn restaurant before the accident. A friend, Diana Ramage says she tried to take Downey's keys because it appeared she'd had too much to drink.

The director of operations for the Auburn women's golf program Danielle Downey, who previously played on the Futures Tour and the LPGA Tour, died in a single-vehicle crash on Thursday night. She was 33.
Carol Robinson of AL.com reports Downey lost control of her car and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. She was taken to the hospital, but efforts by medical personnel were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead just before 11 p.m. local time.
Lee County coroner Bill Harris provided further details to Robinson:
Her injuries, Harris said, were too severe to airlift her to the hospital, so she was rushed to the emergency room via ambulance in trauma arrest. Aggressive efforts to save her were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead on arrival at the emergency room at 10:58 PM from a massive head injury and multiple blunt force impact injuries.
