2016 British Open Odds: Dustin Johnson Earns Co-Favorite Status with Jason Day

Australian Jason Day—who tied for fourth in the tournament last year—is also +800.
Johnson won the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania a month ago with a four-under-par 276, beating Ireland’s Shane Lowry and fellow Americans Jim Furyk and Scott Piercy by three strokes.
Lowry had led the tournament by four strokes with a seven-under 203 through the third round, but seven bogies on the final day did him in.
Johnson’s best finish in the British Open came in 2011 when he tied for second at Royal St. George’s Golf Club in England. Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke won it that year and was followed by Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and Zach Johnson winning the major in subsequent years.
Zach Johnson edged 2010 winner Louis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman in a four-hole playoff last year to take home his second major championship (he also won the Masters in 2007). Of that group, McIlroy has the lowest betting odds at +900, followed by Mickelson (+3300), Oosthuizen (+4500), Zach Johnson (+5000) and Els (+12500).
Another top contender to win the 2016 British Open is Jordan Spieth (+1000), who tied Day for fourth last year after both missed the playoff by one stroke. The 22-year-old Texan has played well for the most part since finishing second at the Masters, where he blew a five-stroke lead on the back nine in the final round.
Spieth won the Dean & DeLuca Invitational at the end of May, finished 37th at the U.S. Open and tied for third in the Bridgestone Invitational, which Dustin Johnson won, two weeks ago.
