2013 Northern Turst Open: Bill Haas Has Made a Friend in Riviera Country Club

Haas has posted a 12-under-par score of 201 through the first 54 holes of the tournament and currently holds a three-stroke lead over Webb Simpson, Charl Schwartzel and John Merrick.
Luke Donald and Fredrik Jacobson are four strokes back at eight-under par for the tournament.
Haas catapulted himself into the lead on Saturday by playing holes nine through 11 in four-under par, which included a chip-in eagle at the par-four 10th.
“Just kind of was plugging along out there and then all of a sudden, made a nice putt at 9, chip‑in at 10, good up‑and‑down at 11 and then made a couple nice par saves,” Haas said (via ASAP Sports) after his round.
Haas has played bogey-free golf over the past 36 holes, and his third-round score of 64 was a full four strokes better than any other player in the field.
Riviera Country Club has historically been the type of golf course that a select few players manage to fall in love with, while others can never seem to unlock the secrets of its small undulating greens and sticky kikuyu grass.
Ben Hogan, of course, fell in love with Riviera back in 1947 when he captured three titles (including the 1948 U.S. Open) at the storied venue in a span of just 18 months.
Arnold Palmer won the Northern Trust Open three times in a five-year span between 1963 and 1967, including back-to-back wins in 1966.
Paul Harney captured back-to-back wins in 1965 and 1966, which briefly disrupted Palmer’s domination of the course through the early-to-mid 60s.
