2011 LPGA US Women’s Open: Latest News, Results, Schedule, and More

This is the second time that the East Course has played host to the Women’s Open. The first came in 1995, when Annika Sorenstam won the first of her three US Opens and 10 career majors.
This year, Colorado Springs has been hit with a lot of rain over the week, which has caused several delays. Due to this, many golfers were forced to play nearly 30 holes on Saturday.
Through Round 2, the top two names on the leader board are the unrelated duo of Mika Miyazato and Ai Miyazato.
Defending champion Paula Creamer is still in the hunt, tied for sixth at even par.
The headliner at the beginning of the week was Yani Tseng, who is going for her second major of the year, which would be her fourth overall and give her the career Grand Slam.
After starting the tournament with a pair of 73s, a Tseng victory looks unlikely, as she is currently sitting in a tie for 27th with nine other players.
This is the second major of the season for the LPGA. The first was the Kraft Nabisco Championship, which was claimed by Stacy Lewis. The second was the LPGA Championship, which was claimed by Tseng.
Lewis is in position to contend, as she followed an opening-round 68 with a 73 in Round 2. She currently sits four off of the pace, tied for fourth place with Big Break alum Ryann O’Toole.
Another storyline is the play of South Koreans. Despite having 18 of the top 50 players in the world, a player from South Korea has yet to win a tournament this year.
NBC is covering the championship on both Saturday and Sunday from 3-6pm EST.
