Recap Bjerregaard couldn't have asked for a much better start to his day, as he bagged the first ace of his European Tour career on the second hole, a par-three.
As shared by the European Tour's official Twitter account, the Dane explained what it felt like:
He came back down to earth with a bogey on the next hole but would score two more birdies on the front nine before shooting one-under on the back nine for a final score of five-under and the early lead.
Bjerregaard missed on one of his scrambles and one of his sand saves, but his short game was on point. The 24-year-old finds himself in a great position to win his maiden European Tour event, although there's a long way to go still, and competition at Le Golf National will be fierce.
Some of the world's best players and former winners of the event have traveled to Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Paris, although not all of them found success on Thursday. McIlroy finds himself five shots behind Bjerregaard after shooting 71 in his opening round.
The Northern Irishman struggled from the tee and only converted three of his seven scrambles, but his short game kept him in the running for the tournament win.
