We got our first retirement before the race even began, when Kovalainen was seen being wheeled back to the pits with a gear box issue. The team thought they could get their Lotus driver back out on track a few laps in, but it never happened.
As for the start, it was interesting to an extent, but largely uneventful. Webber held his own brilliantly, and behind him Hamilton, Vettel, and Alonso darted around a bit. This was pretty to watch, almost like synchronised driving, but no positions changed hands and from that very first corner the race was practically decided.
So lap two and here were the standings:
Webber, Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso, Button, Schumacher, Massa, Sutil, Alguersuari, (great start from him), Kubica, Rosberg, (who went off onto the grass and slipped back), Barrichello, (a great start for the Brazilian), Hulkenberg, Liuzzi, Trulli, Kobayashi, Glock, Petrov, Chandhok, Buemi, di Grassi, Senna.
Soon after copying down the positions on lap two, Bruno Senna was seen shooting off the track with a technical issue. Race over for the great man’s nephew.
By just lap 10 there was really nothing to report. Massa was dropping away from Schumacher, Alonso was dropping from Hamilton, and those Red Bulls were storming. I guess you might be interested to know that Buemi overtook Chandhok for P19 around this time after a terrible start for the Torro Rosso driver.
Our first stops came on lap 15 when Schumacher, Rosberg, and Massa stopped. The only drama here happened when poor old Rosberg’s front right wasn’t fitted properly and the young German lost a lot of...
