Friday practice highlighted the fact that, even though the track has been given the go-ahead by Bernie and his various advisers, there are issues that still need to be addressed.
For example, the tarmac is complete, but the infrastructure of the venue itself still has a fair way to go to be considered finished. This has caused a significant amount of dust on the track, making grip of the racing line dangerously low.
Most of the cars took a spin at some point during the Friday sessions, which gave the men behind the wheels their first cause for concern.
The next big issue is regarding the pit lane entrance, which has somehow found itself intertwined in the exit of turn 17 and the entrance of turn 18, meaning that any chasing car would be unaware of a driver's intention to pit until it is possibly too late.
This is being addressed by stewards, but is unlikely to be changed before the race.
So where do we stand after qualifying? There was definitely a feeling of confidence in the McLaren camp during the build up, but sadly did not translate to the grid positions they were hoping for.
Lewis managed fourth, but Jenson only seventh. Having said that, this track is arguably better suited to the McLarens. As long as they get away well off the start, they could push the front-runners as early as the first lap.
