Sebastian Vettel claimed a record-equaling ninth consecutive Formula One victory with a dominant performance in the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix.

Extending his own succession of wins in a single season, the Red Bull ace beat outgoing teammate Mark Webber and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso to match Alberto Ascari's 60-year-old record of nine-in-a-row, set over the 1952-53 campaigns.

Vettel was beaten into Turn 1 by the Mercedes of Nico Rosberg, with Lewis Hamilton slotting into third, but the German was back in front as they started the second lap as he drove past Rosberg exiting the final corner.

Mercedes had gambled in qualifying on a wet race and their wing set-up confirmed this, with Rosberg and Hamilton falling behind Alonso and Webber in the next few laps. They swapped places soon after, with Rosberg also being passed by Massa and later Jenson Button's McLaren in the pitstops.

Webber quickly despatched Alonso for second but could not make any inroads on his teammate in his final Grand Prix, but a stacked Red Bull pitstop did allow him a second bite at Vettel shortly after mid-distance.

Valtteri Bottas attempted to unlap himself from Hamilton into Turn 3, pulling alongside the Briton, before the Mercedes edged to the right unaware of the Williams' presence.

That broke Bottas' wheel and sent him spinning into retirement, an incident which would earn Hamilton (then running fourth) a drive-through penalty and also sparked fears of a safety car from Red Bull.

Vettel was called into the pits, where his tyres were not ready and he was forced to wait. Webber was briefly held behind until Vettel's stop was completed, but the confusion actually cost the race leader more time, his lead slashed almost in half.

However, despite shrugging off the renewed attentions of Alonso, Webber actually dropped further behind his teammate and had to settle for second in his farewell race. Article Source: Bleacher Report - Formula 1
