Nico Rosberg had qualified on pole and, unlike last weekend in Malaysia, managed to stay in touch with Hamilton for the early part of the race. The two teammates went wheel-to-wheel several times until Rosberg switched to the harder tyre and Hamilton started to pull away.
A safety car—following a scary incident where Pastor Maldonado drove into the side of Esteban Gutierrez and flipped the Sauber—closed the gap. (Thankfully, Gutierrez seems to be OK.)
At the restart, with Rosberg now on the softer tyres, Hamilton barely held off his hard-charging teammate.
Further down the field, no one could challenge the two Mercedes. Sergio Perez claimed Force India's second-ever podium and joined with teammate Nico Hulkenberg to sandwich Daniel Ricciardo in fourth place.
Sebastian Vettel was sixth, having been asked by the Red Bull team to let Ricciardo through early in the race. After getting back in front of the Australian, Ricciardo passed the defending world champ again following the restart.
The two Williams, led by Felipe Massa, and the two Ferraris, with Fernando Alonso in the lead, rounded out the top 10.
Both McLarens retired, while both Lotuses finished a race for the first time this year.
