Poleman Mark Webber came home second, 33 seconds behind his dominant teammate, after recovering from a poor start to leapfrog Nico Rosberg at mid-distance.
Having wrested the lead from his teammate at the start, Vettel romped into the distance with Rosberg his immediate pursuer having also despatched the slow-starting Webber.
But Rosberg could not match Vettel’s pace, and eventually slipped behind Webber at the race’s halfway stage. Webber edged clear to take a comfortably second, with a late surge from Romain Grosjean occupying Rosberg’s attentions at the end.
Rosberg held firm to secure a second successive rostrum, but teammate Lewis Hamilton fell foul of early-race traffic and could only manage seventh, just ahead of Felipe Massa.
It was a race in which strategies were split, with the majority opting to stop twice and only two cars managing just the one change of the tyres.
They were the Force Indias of Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil, and even their tyre choices were mixed.
Di Resta ran softs in their opening stint, and used it to good effect to eventually finish a superb sixth. He held off a late charge from Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari, who was forced to make a relatively late second stop.
Sutil, running the softs at the end, hung on to claim the final point in 10th. Jean-Eric Vergne attempted a one-stop, but tumbled down the order in the final stages and eventually made a second stop with just three laps remaining.
Kimi Raikkonen's awful weekend continued. He retired after completing just one corner, contact at the back of the field ending his race within seconds of the start.
