A Tip for Mark Webber: Shut Up and Drive

But Mark Webber doesn't appear to know it.
Thus, we saw him complaining to the TV cameras about his position in the Red Bull team after Sebastian Vettel was given preferential use of a new gee-whiz car part. "I would never have signed a contract for next year if I believed that was the way going forward," complained Webber.
Well, tough luck Mark, but life is never fair and there isn't really a Santa Claus.
In reality, Vettel is bound to be the team's favoured son. He is 10 years younger than Webber, and widely regarded as being an outstanding talent of his generation. Of course Red Bull want to keep him with them, because he has a great future and will pull sponsorship money in.
Potential sponsors will not be impressed by a driver in the twilight years of his racing career who publicly whines about the team.
Webber is having a very successful year in F1, and he would no doubt say that is a result of his driving talent. In truth though, the 2010 Red Bull team is in a class of its own, and any other F1 driver would be able to achieve similar results with it. Webber needs Red Bull to be successful; the reverse is not true.
Going forward, Red Bull need to put wins and championships in Vettel's grasp, or they will surely lose him. What they do not especially need to do is keep Mark Webber, and if he insists on washing the team's dirty linen in public his F1 career must now be drawing to close.
Do yourself a favour, Mark. You're in a good car at last, so enjoy it while you can. Just shut up and drive.
