The hosts came into this match having won just a single test in 27 attempts against teams from the southern hemisphere, and coach Warren Gatland admitted his team were desperate for a result, via BBC Sport: We’re desperate to get that win. I know there’s been a lot of criticism about us putting ourselves in positions and when you look back at the last few years,...

Dating back to 1909, England and Australia hold a rivalry that sits as one of the most celebrated in inter-continental rugby, ready to be revived at Twickenham this Saturday. Both teams will collide in the English capital with hopes of ending their 2014 autumn international series on a strong note, and the spectacle has a lot to live up to in terms of what this fixture has produced in the past. Since 1997, the Cook Cup moniker has made for an even more intense relationship between the two sides, and it’s since then the great majority of England versus Australia highlights have occurred. In...

Both Warren Gatland and Heyneke Meyer will be expecting a flourish from their teams as they head toward a Rugby World Cup year in 2015, with Cardiff set to host a most promising calendar climax. Let’s not go over old ground. Wales and Southern Hemisphere teams have a heavily lopsided history. The list of results doesn’t tell the full story, however, of how close some of those defeats have been for Warren Gatland’s men. A case in point is the second Test of their trip to South Africa last summer, when they were a Liam Williams misdemeanor away from a precious win on Springbok soil in Nelspruit, per ESPNScrum.com They have a chance to avenge that loss this weekend in what should be a crackling finale to the autumn Test schedule. What a boost it would be ahead of the visit...

A rugby coach in Wales has been banned from driving for 20 months and fined £688 for crashing his car while dressed as pop star Rihanna and then fleeing the scene. According to the Daily Mail, the incident happened in Newport, Wales, in the early hours of November 9. Glenn Stroud, 43, who is a coach and former player, was two times over the limit when he crashed into another car on his way home from a local “Stars In Their Eyes” competition, where he dressed up as Rihanna. Embarrassed by his purple dress and red wig, Stroud drove away after crashing his Ford Ka...

Mission accomplished for Steve Hansen and his All Blacks. New Zealand arrived in Europe with the Rugby Championship already secured for 2014, albeit without the perfect record of the previous season. They have faced England, Scotland and Wales on consecutive weekends and seen them all off to end their year as the dominant nation in the world. Pretty much everywhere you look there are two players for each position who would walk into most other international starting XVs and in some there are double that number. This autumn some of the supporting cast have had their shot, and while we haven’t...

For many of the Tier 1 outfits, this weekend was the last of their autumn international fixtures, and fans will have been overjoyed to see so many going out with a quite literal bang. Wales and New Zealand’s meeting in Cardiff in particular featured a weighty list of top-class collisions, thanks largely to the close nature of the scoreline, only coming apart as Warren Gatland’s defence did similar during the closing 20 minutes. Jerome Kaino banks bragging rights for the biggest thud of the week thanks to his well-timed challenge on fly-half Dan Biggar, but Julian Savea also gets high...
