Wales take on Uruguay at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium in their opening Pool A match knowing they must rack up the points and avoid suffering any more injuries. Failure to accomplish either of those tasks will make Wales’ progress out of the fiendishly tough group all the harder. Acknowledging this, coach Waren Gatland commented, as per the BBC: “We know we need to be clinical on Sunday.” Uruguay, on the other hand, need to try to avoid a drubbing. The South Americans will be committed, but they will need to make sure they do not show the kind of indiscipline they exhibited...

Mike Brown scored two tries as England beat Fiji 35-11 to get their Rugby World Cup 2015 campaign off to a winning start with a maximum five points. A penalty try and a try from Brown put England ahead in the first half, before Nemani Nadolo went over for Fiji. Brown then went over late on before Billy Vunipola sealed the bonus point with the last act of the game to round out the win. George Ford drew first blood after just three minutes as he converted a penalty after England turned a Fijian scrum. England put Fiji under some early pressure on the back of the penalty, and it told less than 10...

England’s World Cup is up and running after a 35-11 win over Fiji on opening night. It was far from polished from Stuart Lancaster’s men, as a well-organised Fijian defence stifled much of the hosts’ attacking attempts out wide. Handling errors pock-marked the contest—as well as a spate of video referrals—and England never looked like scoring the fourth try for a bonus point; that finally came with the last act of the evening. Lots to work on back at Pennyhill Park for Lancaster and his coaches, but England have the win. Here are your winners and losers. Begin Slideshow Read More →

The Rugby World Cup 2015 kicked off with a fantastic opening ceremony on Friday, firing up the crowd just 40 minutes before the first match of the tournament—England’s vital clash with Fiji at Twickenham Stadium, London. The ceremony itself featured a giant ball, an appearance from a young William Webb Ellis and a rousing speech from Prince Harry of Wales, who stole the show with a short appearance alongside Jonny Wilkinson in a video earlier in the show. World Cup-winning coach Sir Clive Woodward shared this photo of the pitch at Twickenham ahead of the opening ceremony, and it certainly...

The search for South Africa’s third World Cup crown kicks off this Saturday, with Heyneke Meyer’s men taking on the threat of Japan at Brighton Community Stadium. The Cherry Blossoms may be seen as an underdog in a Pool B lineup that also contains Scotland, Samoa and the United States, but the Springboks are taking no chances after naming a starting XV that boasts 880 caps between them. Eddie Jones knows the task facing his Asian representatives is a steep one, but an early encounter against South Africa may just put Japan in good stead for the remainder of their Pool B campaign. Ireland open their World Cup campaign with what looks like a relatively easy hit-out against Pool D minnows Canada in Cardiff. But Irish coach Joe Schmidt has been at pains to point out that the Canucks could throw a spanner in the works of Ireland’s ambitions to go deep into the tournament, per the Irish Independent: “I know that people probably won’t see them in the same light, but I think they are an incredible banana skin for us,” said the Kiwi mastermind of Ireland’s 2014 and 2015 Six Nations successes. But with that being said, Schmidt has also been questioned...

Will Italy prove the undoing of Ireland or France, and what state will Clermont Auvergne and Canada hardman Jamie Cudmore be in for the World Cup? Begin...
