Spare a thought for South Africa fan Ron Rutland following his side’s defeat to Japan in the epic Rugby World Cup encounter over the weekend. The former trader cycled through Africa and Europe to make it from Cape Town to Brighton, only to see the Springboks lose 34-32 in one of the game’s greatest ever upsets. Rutland‘s journey of more than 26,000 miles, which began in April 2013, was in honour of friend Nix “Lettie” Haynes, who was diagnosed with cancer before the trip and has since passed away. He’s raising money for the Laureus Foundation via the website...

With the world of rugby still giddy from Japan’s jaw-dropping accomplishment on Saturday, three games had the task of living up to the most momentous day in Rugby World Cup history on Sunday. It was always going to be a tall order for Uruguay to mirror the shock pulled off by Eddie Jones’s men, and they duly restored order with a 54-9 defeat to Wales. It was far from a pleasing afternoon for Warren Gatland’s men, however, as the injury victims continued to mount up. Argentina also tried their best to provide another monumental upset by pushing New Zealand hard at Wembley, London,...

Argentina put up a valiant effort against New Zealand at the 2015 Rugby World Cup, but the All Blacks’ quality eventually told as they earned their first win, but a total of three tries and a 26-16 scoreline was not enough to give either a bonus point. Wales took all five points as they ran riot over Uruguay to kick-start their campaign, but also picked up three more injury concerns for their trouble, while Samoa soared to victory on Sunday with a 25-16 victory over the United States. Read on for a recap of Sunday’s results, along with a breakdown of the tournament...

A wealth of expectation rests with reigning champions New Zealand to start their 2015 Rugby World Cup campaign with a bang, but they face stiff competition on Sunday as Argentina bring the best South America has to offer. It’s likely to be New Zealand’s toughest pool encounter, and coach Steve Hansen is leaving nothing to chance, it seems, after naming his most experienced starting XV ever, boasting a collective 1,013 Test caps. Daniel Hourcade’s side are under considerably less pressure and are sure to throw everything but the kitchen sink at the world’s No. 1-ranked team...

The 2015 Rugby World Cup encountered its first major upset on Saturday, as Japan shocked 2007 champions South Africa with a 34-32 win, so Wales and New Zealand will be warned when they start their World Cup bids on Sunday against Uruguay and Argentina, respectively. The All Blacks are the defending champions and overwhelming favourites in Pool C, and in Argentina, they’ll immediately face their toughest test of the group stages, at least on paper. But the Springboks’ loss against Japan shows exactly why no one should be underestimated at this point, and it will be vital for New Zealand...

Any script the Rugby World Cup 2015 may have adhered to was torn asunder on Saturday as Japan recorded their first victory over two-time world champions South Africa with a 34-32 win at Brighton Community Stadium, England. On just the second day of the competition, the underdogs are already emerging to show there’s no respect felt for their rugby superiors, as Georgia also got their tournament under way with a 17-10 win over Tonga. Those two victories stand out as Saturday’s most significant as far as pool-stage impact goes, but France and Ireland were also in entertaining moods...
