The group stages of the Rugby World Cup 2015 are coming to an end, and while we already have a clear view of which eight teams will advance to the quarter-finals, there’s plenty still to play for as the schedule comes to a close. Scotland still need to beat Samoa to make sure Japan don’t overtake them for second place in Pool B, while Australia and Wales will do battle for the top spot in Pool A. Tonga would need a couple of miracles to qualify from Pool C, and Ireland and France will meet in Pool D, with the winner avoiding a clash with defending champions New Zealand in the next round. Here’s...

Week 3 of Rugby World Cup 2015 saw the host team wave goodbye and several nations make their way towards the quarter-finals. Only three players from the northern hemisphere make our best lineup for the gameweek, which gives us an indication of which way the balance of power looks to be going in this tournament. Even with that heavy slant towards the big guns from down south, there are no All Blacks this week following a mediocre showing from them against Georgia at Wembley, London. Australia and South Africa have provided 10 names for the team, which reflects their performances in the crunch...

Hosts England may have slipped out the back door, but the Rugby World Cup 2015 party rages on. Ireland booked a quarter-final slot for themselves with a 16-9 win over Italy while Argentina took a big step towards the last eight by beating Tonga 45-16. The two victors could yet meet in the next round depending on the outcome of Ireland’s key clash with France next week. But England fans looking to offload semi-final tickets may not find too many Irish supporters willing to part with their cash for them after a scrappy performance against the Azzurri that made their team look far from dead...

Joe Launchbury was forced into a rather embarrassing situation following England’s defeat to Australia on Saturday night. The lock beat Bernard Foley, who scored 28 points, and David Pocock, who tormented Stuart Lancaster’s side all night, to the man-of-the-match award following the 33-13 defeat at Twickenham. How? Why? Well, the Rugby World Cup made the MOTM a public vote, and the Englishman came out on top against his victorious rivals. Yet more proof that the English can’t be trusted to make a big decision. New Zealand’s Julian Savea leads all try-scorers at the 2015 Rugby World Cup heading into Sunday’s action, where Ireland will hope to beat Italy to keep the pressure on France for the race to the top spot in Pool D and Argentina and Tonga battle it out in Pool C with a ticket to the next round on the line. Ireland and Argentina are the clear favourites to win Sunday’s fixtures, but this year’s World Cup has already seen its fair share of upsets. Tonga in particular will like their chances of upsetting the Pumas, all-but locking up second place in Pool C behind the All Blacks...

Ireland can seal their place in the quarter-finals of the Rugby World Cup 2015 on Sunday, when they travel to London’s Olympic Stadium for a Pool D clash against Italy. This will be the last chance for Jacques Brunel’s side to make an unlikely run at a place in the tournament’s last eight, but a total of just two tries scored in their last two outings against the Irish doesn’t bode well. Centre Robbie Henshaw returns to the Ireland XV to make his World Cup debut while Iain Henderson comes back in to partner captain Paul O’Connell in the back row. Meanwhile,...
