Argentina and South Africa meet on Friday in a duel to see who will be crowned best of the rest in the Rugby World Cup 2015 third-place playoff. The pair came up short against finalists New Zealand and Australia, respectively, and although the prizes on offer aren’t as grand, the bronze-medal encounter at London’s Olympic Stadium promises fireworks nonetheless. These two teams have met only once before at the Rugby World Cup and it was the Springboks who triumphed 37-13 in the semi-finals of the 2007 tournament, but the rivalry has changed since then. It was only in August of this...

It’s once again a European setting that will see the pair collide as London’s Olympic Stadium prepares for a tantalising encounter, even if first place is no longer on the cards. The Rugby World Cup 2015 final needs of an injection of entertainment. The finals in 2011 and 2007 gave us only two tries from 160 minutes of World Cup final rugby, as the sides tried not to lose rather than go out to win. In 2007, England, having gone back to their fundamentals after a thrashing by the Springboks, were hardly going to come out with an all-court game against the same opponents in the final. The Boks simply nullified the Red Rose threat and took their shots at goal when they came. The only pulse-quickening moment was Mark Cueto’s disallowed try after that scintillating break...

The last men standing will battle for the biggest prize in rugby on Saturday. New Zealand and Australia meet at Twickenham in the World Cup final, with both looking for a third title and the All Blacks bidding to become the first back-to-back world champions. The cut and thrust of the knockout stages has been enthralling; the best ever, many have said. All of which makes those less nerve-shredding days of watching Canada and Italy trade blows, Japan making the whole world fall in love with their rugby team or Georgia defying Tonga at a sun-soaked, raucous Kingsholm, seem like a time long, long...

It’s comforting to know the two most deserving teams will line up in the final of the Rugby World Cup 2015 after New Zealand and Australia defeated South Africa and Argentina, respectively, to book Saturday’s climax. Both the Springboks and the Pumas made valiant efforts in their bids to advance to the Twickenham decider, and neither team should regret the exciting manner in which they exited the running after leaving it all on the pitch. Heading into Saturday’s crescendo, we’ve taken a final run at the Rugby World Cup power rankings, but be sure to check out last week’s...

New Zealand and Australia will contest their first-ever Rugby World Cup final against one another next Saturday after defeating South Africa and Argentina, respectively, to reach the climax of the 2015 tournament. This weekend’s semi-final did not fail to entertain, with the All Blacks deservedly edging the Springboks 20-18 before the Wallabies ousted the Pumas from the running with a 29-15 triumph on Sunday. New Zealand will have their chance to become the first nation ever to win back-to-back World Cups next Saturday at Twickenham, London, but the not-so-small matter of beating Australia separates them and a 2015 triumph. This will be the 155th meeting between the two bitter rivals, but it represents their first time facing off in the final of a World Cup after clashing in the semis in three of the past seven tournaments. The World Cup can sometimes be blotted by a sense of controversy in who makes it to the curtain call, but we can all rest assured this year’s competition very much sees the...

The Rugby World Cup final takes centre stage on Saturday, as New Zealand take on neighbours Australia for the right to be crowned champions of the world. And despite the fact that the All Blacks will be red-hot favourites to claim back-to-back world titles, it’s very much a case of an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. Here’s all you need to know about the...
