Bleacher Report’s biggest hits make a thumping return this week, after the big guns of European rugby collided and the Champions Cup reclaimed centre stage. Not only did Northampton Saints triumph at Glasgow Warriors, but George Pisi made sure to inflict further embarrassment on the Scots with one of the best tackles he’s likely to deliver this season. Meanwhile, a clash between Ulster and Saracens at Ravenhill produced more than one contentious crashing-together of bodies, and Wasps whiz Frank Halai thundered his way into our countdown. Read on for all that and more as we run through...

The European Rugby Champions Cup finally got off to a delayed start for a raft of the continent’s best and brightest this weekend, where it was the English clubs in particular who soared higher than any others. Following the tragic attacks that unfolded in Paris on November 13, many clubs were making their 2015-16 debut in the tournament this weekend, with Clermont Auvergne, Racing 92 and Bath opening their campaigns with victories. Sunday brought about the biggest drama, however, as Wasps dismantled reigning champions Toulon with a surprising 32-6 win at the Ricoh Arena as Dai Young continues...

The RFU have their man, and the Stormers presumably have an awful lot of compensation. Eddie Jones has swapped Table Mountain for Twickenham to become the next head coach of England, with the task of taking them from pool-stage flops to top of the world in 2019. The Australian who worked miracles with Japan has far more resources at his disposal as the head honcho of the Red Rose brigade, and his employers will be looking for plenty of bang for their buck from the 55-year-old. There is plenty in the new head coach’s in-tray, with these three items top of the list. Let’s take a...

Eddie Jones has been appointed as the new head coach of the England rugby team on a four-year deal. Confirmation of the Australian’s appointment was reported on Friday by England Rugby: He will take up the role in December and succeeds Stuart Lancaster, who vacated the position earlier this month following England’s disastrous 2015 Rugby World Cup campaign. Jones, 55, will be England’s first-ever foreign coach, and his opening match in charge will be the opening Six Nations clash against Scotland at Murrayfield on Feb. 6. The front-runner for the job since Lancaster’s...

The England rugby team is at a crossroads in its history, and the decision regarding whom is appointed to succeed Stuart Lancaster will dictate how the Red Rose bounces back from arguably its greatest-ever disappointment. The 2015 Rugby World Cup, where England became the first host nation ever to fail to advance from their group, emphasised how far ahead of the pack southern hemisphere teams currently are—and the same can be said for the coaches. BBC Sport reported early on Friday morning that former Japan coach Eddie Jones had finalised a deal to take over at the helm, having secured a...

There are very few sportsmen who can justifiably be said to have changed the way their game was played forever. Ed Moses’ 13-stride pattern between each barrier of the 400m hurdles was unheard of before the American adopted it to dominate his event for a decade, per the Guardian. Michael Jordan’s God-given abilities forced rule changes in basketball, and generations that followed modelled themselves on the Chicago Bulls’ No. 23, per the Sports Archive Blog. Dick Fosbury’s backwards flop over the high-jump bar in 1968 transformed that discipline for good, per the Guardian. And...
