A second-half resurgence saw England stride to a 21-10 win over Ireland on Saturday and extend their 100 per cent winning record in the 2016 RBS Six Nations as they returned to the top of the standings. The Twickenham hosts were frustrated in the opening period and went in at the break with a 6-3 lead, but Anthony Watson and Mike Brown went over the whitewash to seal a convincing second half for coach Eddie Jones’ side. Ireland did well to hold off England’s assault for the opening hour, but legs eventually tired as the travelling party deservedly came off second best in London. Ireland’s...

England march on in their quest for a first Grand Slam since 2003, after a 21-10 win over Ireland at Twickenham. A first half short on quality was dominated by the home side, but they couldn’t find a way past a dogged Irish rearguard. Conor Murray’s try inched Ireland ahead, but their first-half defensive efforts told in the latter part of the contest, as England found space and created tries for Anthony Watson and Mike Brown. Ireland created pressure in the closing stages as England went down to 14 men, but the home side saw the game out. Here are the winners and losers from Twickenham. Begin...

Scotland ended their Six Nations winless streak with a 36-20 triumph over Italy on Saturday, their first win in the competition in two years, per BBC Sport’s Aimee Lewis. Greig Laidlaw’s boot gave the visitors no less than 19 points, while John Barclay and John Hardie scored early tries to gave the Scots the lead. Leonardo Ghiraldini scored the first try for the hosts, and Kelly Haimona’s boot kept things close before half-time. Marco Fuser added some late excitement after Finn Russell was sin-binned, but Tommy Seymour secured the win with a late try. WP Nel was also...

Wales shifted the pressure onto England in pursuit of Six Nations glory as they ground out a 19-10 win over France in Cardiff to move to the top of the tournament standings on Friday. George North scored the only try for the hosts in an abrasive 80 minutes, with both defences on top throughout. France were hugely disappointing, especially after beating Ireland the last time out, and will feel as though they missed an opportunity to secure a crucial win after dominating possession for long spells. On Saturday, Italy will host Scotland, with both sides looking for their first win, while England,...

Wales beat France 19-10 at the Principality Stadium to take them to two wins and a draw from three matches in the 2016 RBS 6 Nations. Wales scored their try after a dreadful error from Jules Plisson, and despite France having the better of the second half and pressuring for long periods, Wales always seemed in control. Plisson, then, was one loser. There were two more losers for France and, possibly counterintuitively, one winner from Les Bleus. Begin Slideshow Read More →

Wales moved to the top of the Six Nations standings on Friday night as they emerged as 19-10 victors against France in Cardiff. The only Welsh try of a gritty clash came from George North in the second half; the Welsh also benefitted from the boot of Dan Biggar, as he slotted 14 points. A try from France captain Guilhem Guirado, who didn’t deserve to be on the losing side, came too late for the visitors. Friday’s victory left Wales on five points after three games, two ahead of France, whom they leapfrogged after the win. England can retake the top spot on Saturday at Twickenham,...

Toulon utility back James O’Connor was taken to the hospital after the win over Oyonnax last Sunday after suffering an apparent cardiac issue while on the team bus. According to Matthew Southcombe of Wales Online, it was initially feared he had suffered a heart attack, but O’Connor has since taken to Twitter to explain he suffered hypoglycemia, reassuring his fans in the process: Per ITV’s Martin Gillingham, team-mate Mamuka Gorgodze provided “treatment” before the Australian was transported to the hospital: While the incident occurred last Sunday after...

England will go in search of their third straight win in the 2016 RBS Six Nations as they entertain Ireland at Twickenham. After two wins on the road, this will be Eddie Jones’ first taste of life in charge of the Red Rose brigade at Twickenham, and his team will be confident of victory over an Irish side struggling for form and fitness. The champions are beset by injuries to key men and field two new caps against the tournament pace-setters. There are plenty of unknowns on either side. Will Joe Schmidt’s patched-up troops be able to produce a performance worthy of the title-holders?...

Without a point to show between them, Italy and Scotland will collide in Rome on Saturday hoping to move up the 2016 RBS Six Nations standings and away from Wooden Spoon contention. Vern Cotter’s men travel to the Italian capital after falling short in Cardiff as they dropped to a 27-23 defeat at Wales’ hands, while the Azzurri were blown away by England after losing 40-9 in Week 2. It’s often been this fixture that dictates who finishes at the base of the standings, with these two teams accounting for 14 of the 16 Wooden Spoons handed out to date. Both teams will hold out hope...

Italy and Scotland will seek their first win of the 2016 Six Nations tournament when they meet during Saturday’s action at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The Scots are on a losing run of nine straight matches in Six Nations competition. But their recent outings are cause for optimism, and they’ll enter Saturday’s contest as slight favourites. Italy kept things close in Paris against France and held their own in the first half of their 40-9 loss against England, and at home, they’ll like their chances against Scotland, the only team they beat last year. Here’s...
