England slumped to a disappointing 2-1 loss to the Netherlands at Wembley on Tuesday, firmly killing the buzz generated by the dramatic comeback victory over Germany on Saturday. Are the Three Lions good or not? It seems we can’t tell, and the players don’t really know either. Jamie Vardy finished a brilliant team move to put the hosts ahead just before half-time, but in the second half Danny Rose gave away a penalty which debutant Vincent Janssen converted. Luciano Narsingh then stabbed home after Janssen bundled Phil Jagielka over in the box. Here, B/R picks its winners and losers...

There’s no such thing as a meaningless friendly. England returned home on Tuesday for a Euro 2016 warm-up against the Netherlands at Wembley, buoyed by a 3-2 win over Germany on Saturday night that had many talking up their chances at the summer tournament (again). Leicester City pair Jamie Vardy and Danny Drinkwater were handed starts, while Roy Hodgson’s men were captained by Liverpool midfielder James Milner. Wayne Rooney‘s punditry had the internet talking: As did England’s new home kit: It was an emotional game due to the death of Dutch legend Johan Cruyff late...

Happy birthday, guys. Dimitri Payet and N’Golo Kante celebrated their birthdays on Tuesday in style, representing France in a friendly against Russia. Debutant Kante was first on the scoresheet after just eight minutes: And France were 3-1 up midway through the second half when Dimitri Payet scored the beautiful type of free-kick that is quickly becoming his trademark. It’s going to be tough for manager Didier Deschamps to omit either of the Premier League stars from his Euro 2016 squad… Russia pulled one back before Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman made it 4-2. England, buoyed from their recent win over Germany, returned home for a friendly against the Netherlands on Tuesday. It’s been an emotional week for the Dutch following the death of Johan Cruyff, and the side lost its match against France, 3-2, on Friday. After an uninspiring first half, Jamie Vardy converted a brilliant team move by England to make it 1-0: Vincent Janssen equalised from the penalty spot shortly after the break following a handball from Danny Rose. Janssen turned provider with 15 minutes to play, squaring for Luciano Narsingh to tap home. And that was how it would end,...

Cristiano Ronaldo is keeping himself fresh during the international break, it seems. The Real Madrid superstar showed off his skills during the first half of Portugal’s friendly against Belgium on Tuesday night: And then he scored to put his country 2-0 in front. Romelu Lukaku‘s second-half goal (with the assist by his brother Jordan) would ensure a nervy finish for Portugal, but they held on to record a 2-1 win. Ronaldo will return to Madrid later this week to begin preparations for Saturday’s Clasico against Barcelona at Camp Nou. [Twitter] Read more International Football...

Teddy Sheringham believes Wayne Rooney should start up front alongside Harry Kane at UEFA Euro 2016, and he is adamant the pair could combine “perfectly.” The England captain was absent due to an injury for their impressive 3-2 comeback victory against Germany in Berlin on Saturday, and as a result, his starting spot has been put under threat from Kane, Dele Alli and Jamie Vardy, per BBC Sport’s Phil McNulty. The likes of Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck are also considerations in the attacking positions, but Sheringham is insistent manager Roy Hodgson should stick...

The media in Brazil have reportedly taken issue with Neymar after he was spotted partying after picking up a booking and a one-match suspension against Uruguay while on international duty. According to AS‘ David F. Sanchidrian, Brazilian newspaper Globoesporte did not take kindly to the Barcelona star’s performance in the 2-2 draw on Saturday and were further incensed when he was seen “out on the town” following the game. The 24-year-old has now missed five games through suspension for the Selecao since Dunga took over for his second spell in charge. Indeed,...
