Alexander Levy won the 2016 European Open, but only after surviving a playoff against Ross Fisher, after both players finished 19 under par in Bad Griesbach, Germany on Sunday. Levy had a healthy advantage at the start of the day, but a pair of bogeys late on the back nine let Fisher close the gap. There was still high drama, though, when Fisher couldn’t sink a birdie putt to win it. A playoff unfolded, and Levy triumphed at the second hole. Levy thought he had overcome a nightmare start featuring three bogeys over the first four holes. However, things came unstuck again when he hit a fourth...

Frenchman Alexander Levy still leads the 2016 European Open after finishing a delayed second round eight-under par on Saturday. Levy is 17-under par overall after wrapping up a round that was suspended on Friday due to fog and darkness. He’s ahead of Sweden’s Michael Jonzon, the tournament’s surprise package so far. Jonzon is 13-under and one shot ahead of Englishman Ross Fisher after completing a round of 63. Dustin Johnson leads the 2016 Tour Championship heading into the weekend after firing a three-under 67 during Friday’s second round to leave him at seven under overall. Kevin Chappell is one stroke back and the only player within three shots of the lead. Jason Day was the day’s other headline story. The PGA Tour noted the top-ranked golfer in the world withdrew from the season finale due to a back injury. The 2016 European Open faced delays due to fog for the second day in a row on Friday, but that didn’t stop Alexander Levy from opening up a six-shot lead over the rest of the field. The Frenchman played flawless golf, completing his opening round and playing 17 holes of his second round before the fading light halted play. With one shot left to play in the second round, he sits at an incredible 17-under. Dustin Johnson doesn’t necessarily need to win the Tour Championship to clinch his first FedEx Cup title, but the world No. 2 carded a four-under 66 on Thursday, putting him in a three-way tie for the lead after the first round. Hideki Matsuyama and Kevin Chappell are the co-leaders of the 30-man field at Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Club. Jordan Spieth kept himself in the running at the Tour Championship on Thursday, shooting a two-under 68 at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.  That left Spieth two strokes behind co-leaders Hideki Matsuyama and Kevin Chappell at the time his round ended. It wasn’t the superstar’s steadiest round of golf, however. In fact, his start was dreadful, as he bogeyed the first hole and double-bogeyed the second.
