Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg will begin the Russian Grand Prix in pole position on Sunday, with team-mate Lewis Hamilton once again running into trouble in qualifying. Hamilton was unable to make it out for the final qualifying stint, meaning he’ll begin in 10th. Trailing Rosberg was Ferrari man Sebastian Vettel, although he will be hit with a five-place grid penalty, meaning third-quickest Valtteri Bottas will start on the front row in his Williams, with Kimi Raikkonen in third. Earlier in the day, Hamilton, who was also summoned to see the stewards after qualifying, set the pace...

Nico Rosberg will look to continue his incredible start to the 2016 Formula One season with a fourth straight win, while Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton hopes to keep his perfect run at the Russian Grand Prix alive. Only two Formula One races have been held at the Sochi Autodrom, and the reigning world champion won both of those contests. He’s yet to get the better of Rosberg in 2016, however. The German has now won six straight races dating back to last season and is the clear favourite to win this year’s title. If Hamilton is to catch Rosberg, Sochi would be a good place to start. Here’s...

After the spectacular comes the steady. Max Verstappen was all-action upon his arrival in Formula One last year, but the Toro Rosso driver has shown a slightly different side to his game across the opening three races of 2016. The teenager is one of just six drivers to score points in every grand prix thus far, and Verstappen hopes consistent points will lead to the prize of a more competitive seat next season, revealing his determination to challenge for podium finishes in 2017. Should Verstappen earn a promotion to Red Bull at the end of this season, as expected, Daniil Kvyat is likely...

After opening the season in Australia, Bahrain and China, Formula One returns to Europe for the third running of the Russian Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton won the first two races at the Sochi Autodrom, but his Mercedes team-mate, Nico Rosberg, has opened the 2016 season with three straight victories (added to the three races he won to finish 2015). Meanwhile, Ferrari and Red Bull are lurking, should the Silver Arrows slip up. F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone made headlines again for saying he thinks Russian president Vladimir Putin should be in charge of Europe, per the Guardian‘s Anushka Asthana...

The fourth round of the 2016 Formula One season will take place at this weekend’s Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi Autodrom, where Ferrari are hoping to get their stuttering campaign back on track. Still without a win after the opening three races, the Italian team are reportedly set to intensify their hunt of two-time world champions Mercedes, with Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen likely to be armed with an upgraded engine. The decision to introduce an update to their power unit at this early stage of the season carries a high element of risk, but could the potential rewards outweigh the...

Only three races of the 2016 Formula One season have been completed, but it seems Ferrari are already beginning to panic. After witnessing Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen run into each other at the beginning of the recent Chinese Grand Prix, Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne told Sky Sports’ James Galloway how the “clock is on” for the team to return to winning ways. Despite challenging Mercedes in Australia, Bahrain and China, Ferrari are without a victory since September 2015, and Vettel is already some distance from the summit of the drivers’ standings. And in response...

Claire Williams, deputy team principal of the Williams Formula One team, told the official F1 website in November 2014, “From where we are now, 2015 should almost be a dress rehearsal for a championship challenge in 2016.” After three races in 2016, it is safe to say that a title run is not going to happen for Williams this year. Mercedes (who supply Williams with their engines) remain dominant, while Ferrari and Red Bull—with their massive budgets—are in the best position to challenge the Silver Arrows’ hegemony. Williams, who finished a brilliant third in the constructors’...

And there we were thinking the 2016 Formula One season would be a fight of the ages between Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. Throughout those long, dark winter months, the thought of the two most successful drivers in the sport’s recent history—one in the gleaming silver of Mercedes, the other in the hallowed scarlet red of Ferrari—stimulated many an F1 enthusiast. With the Prancing Horse galloping close behind the Silver Arrows, it was difficult to envisage a scenario where Hamilton and Vettel wouldn’t engage in an exclusive battle over the course of a 21-race campaign. But...

Formula One brought in nearly $2 billion in 2015, yet unequal revenue distribution is still threatening the future of some teams. Despite finishing second in the constructors’ championship last year, Ferrari will receive $21 million more in prize money than any other team this year, according to Autosport‘s Dieter Rencken and Lawrence Barretto. More than half of Ferrari’s $192 million payout comes in the form of various bonuses, though, rather than for their 2015 performance. Meanwhile, Sauber’s financial problems meant their 2016 car was not ready for the first pre-season...
