In 2015, a pit stop error cost Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton the Monaco Grand Prix. On Sunday, a mistake in the pits by the Red Bull team handed him a victory in the principality. Pit stops are always important in Formula One, but that importance is magnified in Monaco’s tight confines, where overtaking is so difficult. Despite looking quicker for most of Sunday’s race, Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo was left sitting in his pit box for about 10 seconds, waiting while the team scrambled to find the correct tyres for his car. The delay allowed Hamilton to jump into the lead,...

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton mastered the variable conditions in Monte Carlo on Sunday, winning a pulsating Monaco Grand Prix. The reigning champion drove superbly to take the chequered flag, having started in third position on the grid. Pole-sitter Daniel Ricciardo finished second in his Red Bull, with a poor pit stop proving costly, while Force India’s Sergio Perez produced an impressive drive to take third. World championship leader Nico Rosberg had problems with his brakes early on and could only muster a seventh-place finish. Here are the race results, per Sky Sports F1: This...

Almost two years after their last victory, Red Bull were winners again on May 15 as Max Verstappen sprayed champagne from the top step of the Spanish Grand Prix podium. But as one driver revelled in producing a much-needed feel-good story for Formula One, the other was finding it difficult to balance collective joy with personal dissatisfaction. While his colleagues fought between themselves to catch stray droplets of bubbly falling from the skies, Daniel Ricciardo was out the back, having failed to even make the top three in a race he once seemed likely to win. That infectious smile of his remained,...

Nico Rosberg will start alongside the Red Bull man on the front row, with the German’s Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton behind him in third. Elsewhere, Spanish Grand Prix champion Max Verstappen crashed out and will now start at the back of the pack. Hamilton suffered power problems at the beginning of Q3 despite performing well in the opening qualifying phases, but you can take nothing...

Nico Rosberg travels to the familiar setting of Monaco this week hoping he can maintain his momentum atop the 2016 Formula 1 standings after crashing out of the Spanish Grand Prix a fortnight ago. Alongside Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton, the standings leader was forced to retire in Spain, but a win in Monte Carlo would see him become the first driver since Ayrton Senna to clinch four successive Monaco victories. In the absence of the Mercedes pair, Red Bull star Max Verstappen shone more brightly than ever and rallied to Spanish success in his first race for the manufacturer since transferring...

As the 2016 Formula One season gets set to resume with the Monaco Grand Prix, all eyes will be on Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg following their first-lap crash in Spain on May 15. The drivers have clashed on several occasions since Mercedes’ rise to prominence at the beginning of 2014, but the Spanish GP was the first time both drivers were forced to retire as a direct result of an on-track collision. An incident of that magnitude would normally risk splitting a team in half, but Hamilton has insisted his relationship with Rosberg remains unchanged after clear-the-air talks ahead of the...

Daniel Ricciardo topped the classification of a practice session in Monaco for the first time in his career on Thursday, finishing ahead of Lewis Hamilton in FP2, who had set the pace in the morning’s practice ahead of the 2016 Monaco Grand Prix. Mercedes team-mate and world championship leader Nico Rosberg finished close behind the Englishman on both occasions in an electrifying day of practice, while grip appeared to be an issue in both sessions as a number of drivers found themselves in the barriers. Jules Bianchi’s family are set to take legal action against Formula One’s governing body, Team Marussia and the Formula One Group after the Frenchman died following a crash at Suzuka’s Japanese Grand Prix in October 2014. Per BBC Sport, lawyers are preparing to begin proceedings as the Bianchi family believe “one or more of the three parties may have contributed to the crash” that led to Bianchi’s death at the age of 25. Driving for Marussia in Japan at the October 2014 race, Bianchi suffered head injuries after colliding with a recovery...

After a spectacularly unpredictable Spanish Grand Prix, where Lewis Hamilton took Nico Rosberg out on Lap 1 and Max Verstappen claimed his maiden victory, Formula One heads down the Mediterranean coast to Monaco. The Monaco Grand Prix was first held in 1929 and has been run continuously since 1955. Run through the tight, twisty streets of the city, Monaco remains perhaps the toughest test of the season for the drivers. Even the smallest mistakes are punished with a race-ending smash into the Armco barriers lining the circuit. If you hate the endless run-off areas at the modern, Hermann Tilke-designed...

The sixth round of the 2016 Formula One season will take place at this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix, where Red Bull will be the favourites to win a race for the first time in almost three years. Max Verstappen’s arrival from Toro Rosso has re-energised the four-time world champions, and everyone in the paddock seemed to be touched by the 18-year-old’s recent record-breaking victory in Spain. Everyone except the boy wonder’s new team-mate, Daniel Ricciardo, who almost seemed personally offended that he was denied the opportunity to take Red Bull’s first win in two seasons...
