Tiger Woods’ Return: The Two Men Who Know

Published: March 10, 2010

Form says that when things get real quiet, something’s stirring. Well, something’s stirring behind the sheltered walls at Islesworth Country Club in Orlando. Hank Haney was in there last weekend. Guess who he was hanging out with? Could it be Eldrick T. Woods? Yes, he is working on his game and the master mechanic was there for a tuneup. There’s been a lot of “tuning”...

Freddie Couples: Dangerous and Nifty at Fifty

He made it look way too easy. He toyed with the field, then blew it away. Looked effortless, but he’d tell you different. He joins a list that includes Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player. That’s major company for golf’s self-admitted couch potato, Freddie Couples. Give Freddie a TV remote and a host of sports events on the tube and he’s in heaven. He’s found...

Phil Mickelson Belly Flops Out at West Coast Tournaments

Just three words for Phil Mickelson: Come on man! Come on Lefty, you can’t be serious. That was one gigantic belly flop you took for us on the West Coast swing. Come on man! You’ve played four events now and you’ve hardly even logged any television time. You were 45th at Riviera. You were 19th at a home game at Torrey Pines.  You hacked it around in another friendly venue, Phoenix...

Tiger Woods: Where Was Your Wedding Band?

Published: February 22, 2010

It’s been analyzed, replayed, rewound, and generally run into the ground. Ah, the famous or infamous Tiger Woods apology session. Don’t know if you caught it, perhaps most missed this one teeny, tiny item that hasn’t appeared here or in most forums. Tiger Woods had no wedding band on his finger. None, nada, zip. Didn’t catch that until a replay showed the bare digit. No...

Tiger Woods Makes His Public Act of Contrition

Published: February 19, 2010

Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, domo…. It’s over for now. Tiger Woods made his major act of contrition in Jacksonville Friday. He stood there, without much emotion, he read, and read some more and read some more. He was not at ease. He was robotic and obviously uncomfortable. Methodically, he covered all the bases. And he confirmed that he is who we thought he is. He admitted he has been a self-centered,...

Tiger Woods Won’t Shed Any Tears This Go-Round

Published: February 18, 2010

Yes, we’ve all seen Tiger Woods shed a few tears. Winning that first Masters got to him, as Earl his dad, embraced him at the final hole. Tiger cried when Earl died. Prima facie evidence that he is perhaps human. But don’t look for any tears Friday morning when The Invisible Man shows up for a STATEMENT CONFERENCE at PGA Tour headquarters in the affluent confines of Ponte Vedre next door...

Tiger Woods Sets Press Conference on Friday

So the world will take a coffee break of sorts on Friday around 11 a.m. and stop, look, and listen, because he is coming out of hiding. Tiger Woods, that is. Within the regal confines of the majestic headquarters of the PGA Tour, Eldrick T. Woods will face the cameras and most likely read some sort of carefully written statement that will probably throw a mea culpa of sorts toward the Tour, its sponsors...

Dustin Johnson: Tailor Made For The Masters

Published: February 16, 2010

Couldn’t help but notice last April when this tall, gangly guy got up on the 18th tee at Augusta National and ripped his drive over the towering pines on the right, drove his ball up far onto the upslope and hit  a sand wedge into the green during the Masters. Thought that was pretty impressive. The guy was Dustin Johnson, now a two-time, back-to-back winner at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Best...

Tiger Woods In Match Play? Stevie Williams Says “No”

Published: February 8, 2010

Tiger Woods teeing it up next week at the Accenture? Don’t bet on it and Steve Williams says it isn’t so. “The stories stating Tiger will return to the match play have no truth to them,” Williams told the Australian paper the Sydney Morning Herald. Makes perfect sense. Has Tiger been practicing on us? Tiger has checked out of sex rehab and supposedly return to Isleworth...
