It is no secret the popularity of the game of golf is waning. Anyone working in the golf industry, as I am fortunate enough to do, knows the game is struggling. I’m not talking about the sport we watch on television, but the sport that is played on a recreational level. Rounds have been spiraling down for a few years now. From exclusive private clubs, to high-end public courses, to resort clubs,...

Who is number one? Who has a chance to be number one? Who can reach number one with a win or a top three finish? Who blew a chance at number one? Luke Donald had a chance to be number one but blew it. Oh no!! All this makes for great conversation (although that is debatable), but is there really any point to it? Sure, occasionally the rankings are used to seed players in match play events,...

Predicting the remainder of Tiger’s 2011 is no easy task. Based on what we saw at Augusta earlier this month, it would be just as safe to guess three or four wins from Woods in 2011 as it would zero. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people try and predict the future. I like to call it crystal-balling. Having said that, here I go with my own crystal-balling. Shame on me! 10 possible...

The 2011 golf season began just after the first of the year, over three months ago. Really? I think it started over the weekend at Augusta National. Great theater brought golf back to the forefront, something it desperately needed. After a dismal 2010 for golf ratings, the first major of the year has promised greener links for a 2011 season. Here’s the top 20 things we took from the 2011 Masters. Begin...

A quick start is crucial to success at a major. Very rarely can a player turn a tough first round into major championship success. This isn’t to say it can’t be done. Just make an already difficult task that much harder. Although it is still early, Dustin Johnson is hardly lighting up Augusta National on Day one. Johnson is two over par as he heads to the difficult...

Tiger Woods’ 17th Masters is underway, and he started it off the way every golfer wants to start the first hole of a major. With a par. Woods has won four green jackets and has rarely played poorly at Augusta over the years. In the previous 14 Masters (we’ll take out his first two as a teenager) Tiger has, as mentioned, four wins, but also 11 top ten finishes. In the last...

Although Mickelson, along with Tiger Woods, has owned Augusta National over the last dozen or so years, he has never been in this position before The favorite to win the tournament. The defending champ and three time winner is the odds on favorite to repeat and add green jacket number four to his walk-in closet. Although, predicting the winner of any golf tournament is tricky business, what with...

First-round play has begun in the 75th Masters at Augusta National. We’ll be here throughout Round 1 with scores, analysis and news from the year’s first major. Defending champion Phil Mickelson is the odds-on favorite to win, but picking any one player in a strong field of 99 golfers is difficult, at best. The high ranking Europeans are all here, including Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer,...

He is not the favorite, nor should he be, heading into the 2011 Masters. However, completely counting out Mr. Woods from being the man to don the green jacket on Sunday would be foolish. He is too talented and knows how to win on this golf course better than anyone in the field, including the defending champ. Although, obviously, he has played more golf this year heading into The Masters than a year...

The Masters has been around since 1934, and in that span of 77 years there have been some truly great, remarkable performances. Many of these moments have resulted in a certain golfer ultimately winning the Masters title, while others have simply been performances that stood out for a day or two during a particular year. Here is our attempt to nail the top 25 of all time. Apologies if one of your favorites...
