As hard as it may be to believe, we are already halfway through the competition. Teams have now settled into the competition and are starting to look to carrying on momentum through to the top four and onwards. The competition is still reasonably open with over half the teams within a shot of making the semi-finals. If I was going to pick my semi-finalists at this stage, I would say The Bulls...

Six weeks into the 2010 Super 14 and it seems that the competition is no easier to predict. It should start to become clearer after we see the Bulls and the Stormers on their road trip in New Zealand and Australia. This will be telling as the South African sides are never so good away from home, as has been seen with the Lions and Sharks so far this year. Week six produced a mixed bag of games....

We are now four weeks into the Super 14 Rugby Tournament, and the competition is slowly starting to sort itself out. This week, the big stories were the upset wins by the Reds, who beat the Chiefs, and the Cheetahs, who defeated the Hurricanes. Each of the winning teams came in as heavy underdogs and delivered inspiring performances. The weekend was good for three Australian teams in action, as each...

We are now three weeks into the 2010 Super 14 season, and the competition still looks like it is going to be closely contested. It was a good weekend for New Zealand, as all five of their teams won. We also saw the Bulls come from behind to beat the Waratahs in a thrilling finish, while the Brumbies sneaked home against the Stormers. The most obvious thing we can see so far is that there will...

After two weeks of the 2010 Super 14, it is clear to me that this is going to be one of the most exciting competitions for years. The rugby being played is fast and free-flowing, which has been what the game has been lacking over the past few years. However, there still needs to be some thought to go into developing a way that the defending team can still have rights to the ball without getting penalised...

The first week of the 2010 Super 14 went largely as expected with a couple of thrilling finishes, some great tries and little bit of controversy thrown in for good measure. The main focal point of the first week was how the referees enforced stricter rulings around the breakdown area. It became obvious that some teams adapted to the new rulings better than others. While the new rulings did encourage...

The Hurricanes beat the Blues in a true game of two halves on Friday night at Albany. It was a fast-paced game, dominated by the number of penalties awarded but still seemed to flow well. The Blues started off well with new signing Stephen Brett having a blinder. It didn’t take him long to touch down for the first try of the 2010 Super 14 as he went through a large gap in the defence after...

A decade has ended so now I look back and name the XV I consider to be the best of the decade. Picking just fifteen players from ten years is not an easy task and I’m sure that someone else could pick a their team of the decade and it would be completely different to mine showing us the depth that we have in the current game. One of the most difficult things to consider when picking a team of...
