How bad is it for Tiger Woods these days? Well, it’s bad enough that Irish punk Rory Mcilroy takes shots at Tiger all the time now. It’s bad enough that he hasn’t won in 15 months. And most of all it’s bad enough that he made this statement to PGA.com following another poor outing over in Dubai this weekend. “I feel like I can still win golf tournaments,”...

You lead the first round of a tournament. That’s John Daly territory. That’s David Duvall. Not the greatest player of your generation. Not the golfer who was supposed to supplant Nicklaus as the greatest of all time. I don’t know what going to happen to Tiger at this point. I know a lot of people figure he’ll come out of his funk and start winning again like the old days. But...

Call me a Serena hater; I don’t mind. I’m just not a fan. This woman has lived the most blessed life of anyone I know, yet she continues to complain. Worse yet, some in the sporting press have even suggested young women emulate Serena Williams. Really? From the bogus back-story to the refused drug test for the 2004 Olympics, to the idiotic comments about steroids and women, to the outrageous...

Phil Mickelson has won one major and finished fourth in another so far this year. He’s played so well that he would have taken over the world’s top spot had he just simply closed with a quadruple bogey last weekend at the Scottish Open. BUT —he didn’t. His quintuple bogey on the 18th hole last Friday meant Lefty missed the cut by one stroke. Now, I’m...

Last Wednesday I wrote an article saying this was going to be one of the best sporting weekends ever. Maybe I should have said most exciting. Thursday the Lakers won one of the ugliest Finals ever, on Friday the U.S. soccer team stunk up the joint for a half, roared back to tie the game and then had the winning goal called back on one of the worst calls ever, and then the U.S. Open golf tournament...

Yesterday was set up perfect for Tiger Woods. Phil Mickelson, one of his main competitors, had a terrible round. Commentators and fans were on his side. He was playing at one of his favorite courses. The result? He was shaky all day, closed with a six on the 18th hole, and finished with a three over 74. One stroke better than Lefty. The he spent his interview time after the round complaining...

This is why I love sports. Just when you think an event will devolve into the same cynical morass as political and pop culture, the game itself takes over. If CBS had hired writers they couldn’t have come up with anything better than the last week at Augusta. This tournament had everything. Tom Watson bringing back memories of Turnberry last year and Fred Couples bringing back memories...

I wrote an article a couple days ago stating that I hoped that Tiger Woods would get his act together and thrill us with his golf game. That was before I had one of the most disgusting adverts I have ever seen shoved down my throat while I was trying to watch ESPN’s Master coverage. Pro-Tiger fans and Nike execs may disagree, but taking a dead man’s words out of context and...

I just read an article about Jack Nicklaus’s presser at Augusta yesterday. According to the article, the press conference moderator tried to cut off questions three times only to have Jack tell his Augusta handler that he would continue to answer queries from reporters and fans. Afterwards, he rode around course on a cart and talked with adoring fans along the way. No handlers, no bodyguards....
