The women’s final at Wimbeldon between Serena Williams and Agnieszka Radwanska is sure to be a thrilling affair, and the events leading up to the match will have a profound effect on the outcome. Williams, the sixth-seeded player, defeated second-seeded Victoria Azarenka in the finals in straight sets. She has won Wimbledon four times in her career and has 13 Grand Slam titles. However, she is...

Well, here we are again: Roger Federer and Serena Williams each in a Wimbledon final. Federer, a six-time champion at the All England Club, blew through world No. 1 Novak Djokovic on Friday in the semifinals, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Williams, who holds four Wimbledon singles titles, made quick work of world No. 2 Victoria Azarenka, 6-3, 7-6. Now Federer gets set for homeland hero Andy Murray on Sunday,...

OK, it’s a stupid theory, but the way the year has gone for Tiger Woods, it makes as much sense as anything else. Woods has had three victories, two missed cuts, and a WD; erratic play for a guy who up to now has been a cut-making machine. Granted he has a 25 percent winning percentage for this year, but he spoiled us for 15 years with those 74 titles and a habit of being on leaderboards...

The second round of the U.S. Women’s Open is over and there were some surprises, comebacks and chokes. Everything is set for the weekend at Kohler, Wisconsin, and there’s absolutely no way to miss the best golfers battling to hoist the trophy. The Leaderboard Suzann Pettersen leads at five-under, after posting a 68 and holds a one-stroke advantage over two players: Michelle Wie,...

Fresh off his third PGA Tour victory of the year, Tiger Woods came into the 2012 Greenbrier Classic with some fire. Phil Mickelson, coming off a disappointing 65th-place finish at the U.S. Open, was looking to get his game back on track. Both failed to make the cut on Friday. Woods, who captured the AT&T National just a week ago, finished with an even-par 140, one stroke away from the cut. The...

The 2012 U.S. Women’s Open is shaping up to be one of the most memorable in recent history. With a wide variety of talented young players and veterans from all over the world on top of the leaderboard heading into the weekend, it’s sure to be extremely competitive over the final two days on a challenging Blackwolf Run golf course that’s only going to get tougher as the end draws nearer. Norway’s...

Something just is not right with Phil Mickelson. The Hall of Fame golfer has missed the cut or withdrawn in two out of his last three events. The withdrawal came after an opening-round 79 at Jack Nicklaus’ tournament, The Memorial in Ohio. Mickelson bitterly complained about cell phones with the fans after his lone round. Mickelson’s next tournament was the US Open in San Francisco, where...

Michelle Wie shot a six-under 66 in the second round of the U.S. Women’s Open on Friday. It was her lowest round ever at the U.S. Open by three strokes. The problem is that she also shot a two-over 74 on Thursday and has missed six cuts in her last eight LPGA tournaments this year. She finished 33rd and 68th in the other two tournaments. I hate to be a downer, but that’s just the reality...

After a truly memorable race in Valencia (never thought I’d write that), this weekend sees the Formula 1 circus descend upon Silverstone for the British Grand Prix. Back in 1950, Silverstone hosted the first race of the very first Formula 1 World Championship. In 2012, it’s the ninth round. Fernando Alonso broke the sequence in Valencia, becoming the first driver to win a second race this...

After the first round of the U.S. Women’s Open, held in Blackwolf Run, three American golfers share the lead at three-under-par 69: Cristie Kerr, Brittany Lincicome and rookie Lizette Salas. The players have had a tough time with the heat. According to The Weather Channel, yesterday the temperature in Kohler, WI, went as high as 98 degrees with a 105-degree heat index. About this...
