What do Tiger Woods and Ben Hogan have in common? Well, not much other than they both completely dominated their era of golf. However, they might have a lot more than that in common during the coming weeks, months and years. In February of 1949, after having just won 11 events including the U.S. Open and PGA Championship in 1948, Hogan was involved in a car accident while driving with his wife in Van...

Tiger Woods may finally have proved to the PGA Tour, sports world and fans across the globe that he’s just an average golfer. After walking off the ninth green in the first round of The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, the pained look on his face and the slow, ginger steps he took spoke volumes about his health and his future as one of the premier golfers in the world. After shooting a 42...

Paul Azinger still firmly believes Tiger Woods will break Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 major championships. Azinger also believes that Tiger needs a shrink. Azinger opened up about Woods and others Friday morning during a visit to the Golf Channel and the former Ryder Cup captain is never without an opinion. “I think he’s really worried about this one,” Azinger said of Thursday’s...

Heard it all yesterday except this: Conspiracy Theory: The real Tiger Woods is being held captive in a highly-secure, unknown location and he’s been replaced by a body-double, lookalike that has diminished skills, a bum left knee and an incredibly poor short game. Primary Proof: The impostor picked up an expensive dinner tab for Mark O’Meara on Wednesday night at Ruth Chris Steakhouse,...

Previously, I said that including the Players Championship, Tiger Woods should play at least three times before the US Open in June. I make no apologies for saying that. Mostly because I assumed that his knee would be in good enough condition to compete. Obviously, after withdrawing after a front-nine 42, that is not the case. Right now, Tiger’s knee is the most important part of his golf game....

So after today, I saw at least five comments on ESPN’s Facebook page that irked me. Something like “faked injuries” just sounds ludicrous. Let’s take a look a few of the arguments I have seen. Faked injuries: Tiger isn’t faking this. He certainly wasn’t happy with how he played, but shooting a 42 is not Tiger Woods‘ worst golf. 77 is the worst Tiger Woods...

Let me start by saying that I realize their situations are a little different, but there is enough similarity that I think it would prove beneficial to Tiger. First, lets take a look at Jordan’s career; or at least parts of it. Unlike Tiger, it took Jordan a few years to become a true superstar and dominate his sport but, at the end of the 1993 season, he capped a seven-year run that included...

This article first appeared on the author’s blog www.shanktennis.com Another European clay tournament, another dire performance by the American players. Andy Roddick, Mardy Fish and Sam Querrey all bowed out at the first hurdle in Madrid, while John Isner fell as soon as met a non-American. When you consider that for the first three it was their first tournament on the European dirt of the year,...

Manolo Santana has done it once more. The chairman of the Mutua Madrid Open will have the luxury of hosting the titan clash between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for the third successive year. Apart from the majors, no other tournaments on the tour have had the luck of staging a Rafa-Roger encounter. Of course, it will be the first time to happen in a semifinal round at the Madrid Open since the Swiss...

World No. 2 Novak Djokovic was the first winner of the day and played against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-1, 6-2 in 51 minutes. He was soon followed by all of the seeded players at the Madrid ATP Masters. World No. 4 Andy Murray had no such luck, losing to Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci 6-4, 6-2. Not including his two Davis Cup wins, Djokovic is matched with Ivan Lendl for the record start-of-the-season winning...
